Prenatal And Home-Based Services

Kai Ming Home Visitors work with families who are expecting a baby, and families with infants and toddlers (0 to 3 years). Our Home Visitors help families to foster healthy lifestyles during pregnancy, immediately after birth, and throughout the first three years of life. We provide home visits, workshops and socialization groups (play groups), and comprehensive health and wellness services that give parents and children a solid start to early learning readiness. Workshops and Socialization/Play Groups

  • During pregnancy, expectant parents will come together for monthly workshops, focusing on prenatal development, health, nutrition, emotional wellness, and breastfeeding.
  • During the newborn stage, parents and babies will come together to discuss newborn care and development, and share experiences of the joys and challenges of early parenthood.
  • Socialization groups are opportunities for parents to socialize and build confidence and competence as their child's primary teacher. Parents learn to strengthen their observation skills and share their experiences related to their child’s development with other parents.
  • Socialization groups are also opportunities for infants and toddlers to spend time with other children through planned, age appropriate activities and unstructured play. Activities are aligned with school readiness goals, the Head Start Early Learning and Outcomes Framework, and the home-based curriculum. For infants, that may mean tummy time and a safe sleep area. For toddlers, it may be unstructured playtime with a quiet space for children who prefer to observe rather than actively participate.
